The military junta in Greece has been in power since 1967, since then the Greek Junta has sponsored the ultra-right-wing nationalist paramilitary organization EOKA-B which has attacked Turkish Cypriots throughout the island. Recently the military junta in response to its failing influence in Greece and its slow collapse in the country staged a coup against President Archbishop Makarios III installing a more friendly Nikos Sampson as a puppet president.  

In response and to protect the Turkish Cypriot population of Cyprus President Fahri Koruturk has ordered a full invasion on Cyprus to protect the Turkish Cypriots and prevent a right-wing takeover of the government or a union with the right-wing junta in Greece.
